Description: Based on the SANS "Intrusion Detection Cheat Sheet", this talk describes a number of simple techniques that can be used to detect signs of a break-in on any UNIX system. Both basic operating system techniques and specialized tools like chkrootkit and AIDE are discussed. An extremely practical course with advice you can put to work as soon as you get back to work.
Prerequisites: Some knowledge of the UNIX command-line interface and basic UNIX commands like find, lsof, and netstat is helpful, but not required.
