A Sarbanes-Oxley scorecard
Henry Theberge

Topic: Rules and Regulations
Audience: All audiences

Description:
The Sarbanes-Oxley act radically redesigns federal regulation of public companies corporate governance and reporting obligations. It also significantly tightens accountability standards for directors, officers, auditors, securities analysts and legal counsel.

The talk describes a scorecard that helps objectively assess compliance with the act. The primary focus is on internal control and reporting. The reason is that compliance must be ensured (through internal controls) and then reported to the various regulatory bodies. The scorecard provides indicators that will show three levels of compliance to the act â€" full compliance, partial compliance, and deficiencies. Internal controls point to all of the various sections of the act and the processes, information and procedures needed to ensure full compliance.
