Introducing Bastille Linux Jon Lasser

Description: Bastille Linux is an open source hardening script for several Linux distributions, including Red Hat 6.x and 7.x and Mandrake 6.x through 8.x. This talk discusses the Bastille Linux design philosophy and walks through the various features available in the current release of Bastille Linux.
Prerequisites: This talk can be targeted at either less-experienced administrators, in which case it will focus on the what and the why, or for more experienced administrators, in which case it will focus on the aspects of Bastille Linux that can simplify operation of larger sites.
History: Versions of this talk have been presented at the OTA Linux SIG in May 2000, and (with Jay Beale, Bastille's Lead Developer) at SANS Security San Francisco in December 1999 and the Old Bay SAGE group in May 2001.

Bio: Jon is Senior System Administrator at SkyNetWEB, a subsidiary of Affinity Internet Inc., and has been working with Linux and Unix since 1993. He is the author of Think Unix, an introduction to Unix for experienced computer users, and is lead coordinator for the Bastille Linux Project, a hardening script for several Linux distributions. Jon has taught the SANS GIAC GSEC level one certification course at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and is at present unofficial meeting instigator for the Old Bay SAGE (Baltimore, MD) group.
