Prime Suspect: Confessions of a Sarbanes-Oxley Whistleblower (Internal Controls) Nell Walton
Topic: Rules and Regulations Audience: All audiences
Description: Most IT professionals view the new identity theft and corporate fraud regulations with moans, groans and a whole lot of overtime. However, if you're a DBA at an institution that refuses to meet the required security standards and your database is compromised and sensitive information stolen - who will be the prime suspect in the theft? As a Oracle DBA at a Fortune 500 financial institution I found myself at risk for this very scenario. After pursuing all avenues within the company to obtain database security compliance (to no avail), I made the decision to "blow the whistle" for violations of the internal controls section of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. In this presentation I'll tell you my experiences as a corporate whistleblower and provide insight of how IT professionals play a critical role in the new data protection movement. I'll also advise you on how to protect yourself from a criminal investigation and what options are available if your company is non-compliant.
Prerequisites: None - of interest to all segments of Infomation Systems Professionals
History: I have not done any presentations in a long while - but I taught adult education courses for many years and was an actress and musician. I learned to control performance anxiety at an early age and am always well-prepared for my audiences.
