BayLISA meeting: Wardialing, Peter Shipley





The BayLISA group meets monthly to discuss topics of interest to systems
and network administrators.  The meetings are free and open to the public.

BayLISA holds monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month at
7:30 PM PST.

Wardialing, Peter Shipley


Results of a 3 year effort to document the security risks of modem
dialins. So far over 4 million numbers have been surveyed. I show that
the current state of corporate modem dialins are as weak or weaker then
our Internet Firewalls.


Bio:
----

Mr. Shipley has been working in the field of computer and network
Security for over thirteen years. Currently is working as "Chief Security
Architect" for the firm KPMG Peat Marwick LLP after many years as a
independent consultant in the San Francisco's Bay Area.

Mr. Shipley is one of the few individuals who is well known and respected
in the professional world as well as the underground/hacker community. He
has extensive experience in system and network security as well as
programming and project design. Past and current clients include TRW, DHL,
Claris, USPS, Wells Fargo, and KPMG. Shipley is currently concentrating
his efforts on completing several research projects.

Mr. Shipley's specialties are third party penetration testing and firewall
review, computer risk assessment, and security training. Mr.  Shipley also
performs post-intrusion analysis as well as expert witness testimony.
