Re: [SAGE] Fun for the better half at LISA.
I believe you're referring to the Gaslamp quarter in downtown. To complete you're
California experience, you could visit the former location of 'Planet Hollywood' which
is in the gaslamp near Horton Plaza (If you're doing some shopping, this mall is probably
the most interesting in San Diego). Planet Hollywood was partially owned by the Governor
Elect of CA.
I realise this may be a bit obvious, but consider going to the beach as well. If you're
not familiar with southern california beaches, they're not the same as any beach I've
been to (Florida may come close, only the Pacific is considerably colder at San Diego's
lattitude than is Florida, since the currents bring water down from the arctic).
As a San Diego native, I recomend beaches in La Jolla and Coronado.
In some ways similar to the Gaslamp is Hillcrest, which I also recomend hanging around.
Hillcrest is a bit less formal than the gaslamp with a good deal more of alternative
culture.
The zoo and wild animal park are both excellent. There is lots of good stuff to do in
Balboa Park (which surrounds the zoo on at least 3 sides), which was the site of the
World Fair in the first part of last century...lots of museums, gardens, historical
buildings, shops, etc.
