I actually have an Asterisk installation. Though I went all out
and have a channelbank running my local analog phones and POTS lines.
Asterisk also has some pretty good echo cancelers. For calls
across VoIP I will hear an echo for the first one or two seconds.
Once the canceler trains up, it is gone. I am running it on a
Hush Box sold via www.mini-itx.com. You can build a system for
alot less that would be bigger, but I liked the look and the no
fans bit. In fact, I have a second one, that I am going to use
for my entertainment center.

My outbound calls go via nuphone.net. I have DIDs from
connect.voicepulse.com.

For directory services, I am registered at Free World Dialup
www.fwd.pulver.com. (I am 85528.)

For more information about Asterisk and other VoIP services and
technology you can look at the Asterisk Wiki at
www.voip-info.org.
